Caernarfon to Dinas Opening, October 1997

On the eve of my first visit to the reopened NWNGR line as far as Rhyd Ddu it seems appropriate to go back six years to the opening of the very first part of the project, the former standard gauge line between Caernarfon and Dinas Junction.  The line was officially opened on the 13th of October 1997 with an afternoon train for invited guest, the first advertised public trains running the followin morning.  In actual fact the line had opened to the public a few days previously with unadvertised public services.
